Many older men favored these type of shorts because of the freedom the give to the lower region.
I know you guys who grew up in the early era of lycra, and very short shorts can remember the infamous BULGE when older men wearing these type of pants and short pants.
Like women's cleavage, the bulge would be equivalent to that, among most us gay men who admire the bulge greatness.
